No Easy Answers to Iran’s Continued Nuclear Development

Western analysts and politicians reacted optimistically to an unexpected diplomatic rapprochement at the end of July between Iran and the United States, with media sources predicting an end to the year-long confrontation between the Shiite fundamentalist regime in Tehran and the Republican-led administration in Washington, D.C. Such optimism, however, seems to have been based mostly on hope, as the situation again became very negative after Tehran refused to commit itself to yet another deadline set by Western parties.
