The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 amended the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) that President George W. Bush signed into law in 2005. The new requirements, which apply to blenders, importers and refiners, accelerate the phase-in of the amount of renewable fuels that must be blended into U.S. fuel supplies. This mandate applies broadly to a defined category of biofuels, and it also defines specific volumes of ethanol that must be added.
